Against a Hypo-Calvinistic Interpretation of John 3:16
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
1. For God so loved the world: God loves all the elect from all nations, ethnicities and locations. If the world means every individual without exception head for head, then God’s love has failed because many are already in hell since the time of Adam. Revelation 5:9 defines the world of John 3:16 – “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation (the world of John 3:16)”.
2. that he gave his only begotten Son: John 17:24 says that the Father gave the elect to and for Christ, hence by logical implication Christ must be given only for the elect believers. What kind of logic that thinks to include the wicked reprobates in the world of John 3:16 as well?
3. that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life: Who will believe and finally have everlasting life and not perish? Indeed, only the elect. Hence, there is nothing in the “whosoever” that includes the wicked reprobates. It simply means that any of the elect (regardless of nations, geographies, languages and ethnicities) who believes in the Son of God in time and space (as founded upon God’s eternal unconditional election) should not perish, but have everlasting life.
